- You were at the coronation, the son of a small baron in the great country
- of Mitara. In attendance were all the nobles of the land. You, as a likely
- heir to the baron, watch with wonder the spendor of the proceedings. The new
- king slowly walks up to the dais to receive his crown. Perhaps, after the
- last two hundred years of petty wars, this kingdom will be united under one
- crown again. Coming back from your reverie, you notice something strange;
- the new king is quite a bit shorter than he looked at the ball the previous
- night. Strange...

- At this, the new king's brother runs into the great hall. "IMPOSTER!" he
- shouts. The new king throws off his robes, to be seen at last. Makeup and an
- evil grin show on his face. "The Magi Lords will rule FOREVER!", at which he
- disappears in a puff of black smoke. The foul smoke is so noxious that the
- people closest to the imposter grab their throats and fall to the floor.

- Later, you find that your baron was one of the slain found in the great
- hall. His robes have fallen to you, his heir. You must revenge yourself and
- your family name upon the Magi. This is your oath.
-
- The potential king was found dead only minutes before the ceremony. Again,
- the kingdom that was Mitara is disunited. Again, wars will rage the country,
- due to the evil Magi alliance.

- Gathering a small army, and working to fortify your small castle, you set
- out to find those in the Magi alliance. If only we had known who they were!
-

- Confusion abounds! You have been attacked by a ruthless neighbor, who was
- not even a member of the hated Magi alliance. Since you are more powerful,
- you easily vanquish your foe. Consolidating armies, you venture on...
-
- Into the BattleField.

- For those without Imagination
- -----------------------------
- This is a game for those that LOVE games. I have built as much fun as
- possible into this game, and want it to be played. Some pointers:
-
- Be as conservative of men as possible. They can get ate quite easily.
- Buy armor and weapons instead of men if possible. Fighting naked with
- 10000 men is much worse than fighting with leather and 2000 men.
- Form alliances. They're worth it.
- The goal of the game is to take over every castle on the board. You do
- that, and you'll be named King. Beware, however, that it isn't as easy as
- it looks.
- Do not die if you can help it. You lose a level every time you die.
- Leave messages when you can. They're great for personal communication.
- (Ex: Hey, Castle Thrasher is in sector 3845)

- Spells:
- The listing of the person's stats includes spells. They are:
-
- 0/0/0/0/0/0/0/0
- 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8

- 1. Teleport. Self explanitory.
- 2. Magic Map. Also self explanitory.
- 3. Destroy Monsters. If you're in a fight w/ some monsters, it takes care
- of them quite nicely. Great when you're outnumbered.
- 4. Magic Weapon. Makes your weapon about 5x more powerful.
- 5. Magic Armor. Makes your armor about 5x as thick.
- 6. Magic Warriors. Gives you a few extra buddies.
- 7. Kill User. Kills a user AND his army. Great for the little guy.
- This spell is not recommended for those that want to kill everybody.
- It tends to backfire.
- 8. Steal. Steals a person's castle. All of their warriors are now
- yours. Pretty handy.
- If you can't find a high level spell to buy it is because you are not at
- a high enough level to buy it. The higher the level you are, the
- higher the spell you can buy.
- Also, one other thing: The spells may not work all the time. Sometimes
- the mages screw up the spell.

- Levels:
- There are now levels in the BattleField. Just like every other game you've
- heard of, the higher the level you are, the better you fight, etc.

- Castle Fortifications:
- There has been a major change in BattleField. You are now able to fortify
- your castle against conquerors. The types and the damage incurred by
- the fortifications follows:

- Burning Oil : 250 gp per cask, up to 50 men killed per cask.
- : all casks are used during the first attack.
- Moat : 10000 gp per foot depth. VERY nice after it gets
- : above head level. Armor on the attackers does the
- : obvious thing; The heavier the armor, the more
- : men lost.
- Wall : 20000 gp per foot height in entire wall.
- : Works against the conquerors. 10' are given in
- : the standard castle.
- Towers : 25000 gp per tower.
- : Works against the conquerors again. Towers are THE
- : protection item. The more towers you have the
- : better protected you are.

- The heavy fortifications work to protect the castle defenders also.

- Due to these new additions to the game, castles will no longer be EASY to
- take. On the contrary, they will be VERY difficult to take. Large
- armies will stand an die because of the fortifications of a castle.
- If, by some luck, the person is able to conquer a fortified castle,
- the fortifications stay with the castle to protect its new
- protectors.

- BE CAUTIOUS ABOUT ATTACKING CASTLES. THEY ARE NOT EASY TO TAKE, NOR WILL
- ALL CASUALTIES BE REPORTED FIRSTHAND.

- One other thing: Castles are now ranked as to their strength. The
- rankings are:

- Outpost : The "standard" castle in the game. You start with
- : this.
- Keep : The wall surrounding the castle is over 20 feet
- : tall.
- Stronghold : The wall is over 40 feet tall, with a moat and a
- : tower.
- Fortress : The wall is over 60 feet tall, with a 20 foot deep
- : moat, and multiple towers.

- As you can imagine, a fortress is very desirable. Very expensive too.

- Along with the castle itself, the castle description has changed also:

- Castle so-and-so with 889/10/0/5
-
- 889 - the number of men defending the castle.
- 10 - the height of the wall surrounding the castle.
- 0 - the number of towers in the castle.
- 5 - the approximate depth of the moat surrounding the castle.
- 0 means no moat.
